April 2019 Annual meeting of The Burchfield Homestead Society.
Dean Hansell, a California Superior Court judge who grew up in Salem, talked about his Burchfield collection on April 7 during the Burchfield Homestead Society’s annual meeting. Hansell explained that his appreciation for Charles Burchfield’s artistry began in the 1960s as he viewed The Three Trees while studying in the Salem Public Library. During his presentation Hansell directed the audience’s attention to the ways that Burchfield conveyed emotions in his sketches and watercolor paintings. He also talked about the artist’s creative rendering of places in and around Salem.
During 2017 the centennial of Charles E. Burchfield’s Golden Year of creativity was celebrated in his hometown of Salem, Ohio.
