The Burchfield Homestead Museum is featured with 44 important artists’ spaces in the new Guide to Historic Artists’ Homes & Studios. Author Valerie Balint worked with the Burchfield Homestead Society board on the information about Charles E. Burchfield and the photos of his home in Salem, Ohio. Balint is the program manager of the Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios, a Program for the National Trust for Historic Preservation, based in Massachusetts. She notes in her introduction that artists’ homes “reveal not only an artist’s process, but what in the environment inspired it.”
The Henry Luce Foundation and the Wyeth Foundation for American Art provided support for the book.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Pearce Foundation the Burchfield Homestead Society was able to hire Nick Cool to create excellent photos of the interior and exterior of the Burchfield Homestead Museum, the environment which inspired Charles Burchfield. A gallery of Nick Cool's Photos are below.
